I was born and raised in Bogota, one of the most multicultural cities in Colombia, known as the meeting point of people from all around the country. I studied Tourism & Hotel management at Externado University. When I was finishing my career, I started my internship in ProColombia, where I discovered that I wanted to promote and show the best of Colombia to travelers around the world. I consider myself a creative and adventurous person with a passion for service, who loves working in a team. I like to know people and cultures, travel, learn, enjoy nature, and live each experience that life can give me.
Ana joined our team this year on June in the commercial team as a destination expert. At her role, she’s in charge of compliance with our promise of excellence. Hence, in tasks related to the communication with our clients, designing and quoting itineraries and everything related with sales. She’s seen Colombia from the Caribbean to the amazon and will be more than happy to design the perfect experience for your visiting explorers. She has previous experience at a hotel as well, so she might be the right person to recommend the lodging to enjoy any destination in Colombia. We hope you’ll join us in wishing Ana a warm welcome to our family.
Colombia is a country where people can live a variety of experiences, which can fit any tourists’ profile. However, there are some regions of the country that are not known at the international level and that has a big tourist potential. One of them is the Pacific region: This place showed me amazing landscapes, kind people, spectacular food and the true meaning of work in the community. But the best gift this region gave me, was the opportunity to meet one of the most beautiful and incredible animals in the world: Humpback whales.
The pacific region is formed for the next departments: Choco, Valle del Cauca, Cauca, and Nariño. Those destinations have unique characteristics that make them magical so people must visit them once in life. However, today I will write about my personal experience in Bahia Malaga.
Bahia Malaga is one of the 52 National Natural Parks of Colombia, and despite that, it is located on the Pacific Coast, it makes part of the Valle del Cauca department. In this place lives afro Colombian and indigenous communities, who have worked for the natural and cultural conservations of this destination.
My adventure started in Cali, “the Salsa Capital”, eating Cholado, Luladas, and Marranitas. In this place, I took ground transportation to Buenaventura, the city where is located the principal maritime port of the Country. Then, I took a sea transport for one hour, to arrive at the place where the sea and the jungle meets.
In this national Park, I had the opportunity to speak with afro Colombian and indigenous community leaders, who invites the tourist to visit this natural sanctuary with a spiritual purpose, so people can rediscover themselves and with nature. I took music, yoga, art, and cultural classes, while I enjoyed the landscapes and, sometimes, I sink in the sea to hear the whales. Also, I went to the jungle with Mr. William Rivera, one of the guides of the Wounan indigenous community, who used to sing and pray while we were doing the tour. He explained to me, that he does that as a way to show respect to nature. Furthermore, I was able to visit natural pools, waterfalls, flora, and fauna.
The most exciting day was the day I finally did whale watching. Nothing assured me that I would see them, as they are an unpredictable animal, however, it was a matter of minutes to start seeing them in the company of their calves. There are no words to describe the feelings I experienced at that time: the desire to cry from happiness, the emotion and the combination of pace and euphoria every time I saw the tail of one of them or the jump of their calves. We lasted 30 minutes watching them jump, dive... A life-changing experience!
"My recommendation for any type of trip is to come with an open mind to learn and bring awareness to destinations. This type of places in particular, are perfect for adventurous people, who want to have contact with communities and nature. "
