The magic of Colombia stands on its strategic location that comprises six natural regions: Caribbean, Pacific, Andes, Amazon, Orinoquia, and Insular, a unique geographical combination of the world. Being the second most biodiverse country after Brazil, but significantly smaller in size, Colombia has nearly 20% of the total bird species of the earth, this means it has more than any other country. Certainly, a paradise for bird-watching enthusiasts, curious, experts, or for any visitor that enjoys the peaceful presence of these creatures.
Birds are present all over the country and you can even see some interesting species in the cities. They are not only a major representative of our natural biodiversity but they are very connected to our culture. Music, dance expressions, art, medicine, local communities, ceremonies but most importantly taking care of our territories are strongly linked with our birds. This year, for the fourth time, we won the first prize at Global Big Day, an international birdwatching contest.
“Colombia has the most bird species on earth, almost 2.000 in total. More than 70 endemics, over 200 migrants, at least 160 hummingbirds and the list is growing every year”- The Birders-A melodic journey through northern Colombia.
We invite you to watch this amazing project led by our national tourism entity, Procolombia. It's composed of one long documentary on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and five shorter clips at the other main bird-watching regions of the country. The main piece takes place in the Caribbean region of Colombia and its starred by one of the top bird-guides of the country and an international photographer. The wonder of it is that they gathered local independent musicians to create the soundtrack of the documentary inspired by some of the species seen on the journey. The result is quite spectacular, please delight yourself with music, beautiful landscapes and birds with this episode of
