1. Christmas celebrations start by the end of November. All the corners of the country love to decorate early and plan in advance the month. In the early weeks you’ll see people running around buying presents and assisting the “novenas” and other events that take place during the month. A very festive environment
is in the air as well so be prepared to listen to loud music in the streets, Christmas carols all over the place and food, lots of food!

2. The hardest weeks to travel speaking of availability and rates are the last two: Christmas and new year’s week, however, a good early planning is the recommendation.

3. The first two weeks, even though they don’t represent the main holidays are perfect for travelling: hotels keep their low season rates and locals are still working, therefore, the main destinations aren’t that crowed yet.

4. The weather is the best: sunny days in Bogotá, Medellin and the coffee region and fresh Caribbean breeze in Cartagena and the surroundings.

5. The first week of December we have the “candle night” holiday, a wonderful day to experience Colombian traditions and share the local and festive atmosphere.

6. The most popular cities during this season are Cartagena, Santa Marta and the coffee region, it is important to book in advance and be aware of crowed sites.

7. For the new year’s week, most hotels in Cartagena demand a 4-5 minimum night stay, prepayment and have high season rates.

8. In Bogotá, some museums and important sites close. For example, gold and Botero museums: December 24, 25, 31. January 1st. Contact your destination expert for further information.

9. Meals and tours maintain standard rates, but expect steep prices for flights and hotels. Early bookings are always a good idea during this season.

10. Don’t miss some of the events that happen during the season: Candle light day, Lights festival in Villa de Leyva, Feria de cali, Feria de Manizales, Festival de
